Air to Coil Conversion
Owning a Discovery 3 can be full of pitfalls. One of them is the air suspension impressive did me well on my road trip self levelling great. BUT then a leak somewhere!!
I bit the bullet and went coil conversion I am megga impressed.
The job was not a difficult task just fiddly. I opted for standard Dunlop shocks and fitted 2" lift OME springs all round. The EAS box works fine eliminating any fault lights. The only other mod you have to do is either use iiD tool and alter ride height settings for standard height or shorten the rods as I have done (easy job) pull off the rubber caps and shorten the rods by 10mm glue rubbers back on and away you go.
The car sits and drives very well rock steady around corners, and more comfortable off road just did Peddars Way Castle Acre to Ringstead.

Glad you like it but for me it's akin to neutering. Medically effective but I'll try to be at the back of that particular line.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

The air is only good for towing. For serious off road trips conventional is better but only my choice.iiD Bluetooth Diagnostic Tool

Would it also affect its resale value or resale interest, I wonder?

Why is a dumb spring better for off-road use when compared to an actively controlled system?

I just asked because if I saw an advert with spring suspension I would discount it on that basis.
Same as the P38, loads of them converted to springs and ruined.

I've often thought about converting to springs. I've been let down quite a few times with the air suspension. I been in some precarious positions, only to get the dreaded bong, and the car goes down onto the bump stops. Thank goodness I have D44 underbody protection, as the car gently comes to rest on the underbody protection. Also having the car try and self level just at the point you don't want it to.

hi Graham
agreed , i also wonder how insurance companies feel if it’s not as per manufacturers specifications
ie , braking , cornering , steering etc

Explain Ruined I am puzzled you suggesting the D3 is ruined on coils?
I don't get it, she drives better than before handle cornering more precise and is much more forgiving off road.
It won't tow a horse box as well and it won't lower to go in low car parks I hate horses and don't use multi storeys but I DO travel across deserts and rocky terrain for hundreds of miles and I do like a car that corners like I am in control not an ECU.iiD Bluetooth Diagnostic Tool

hi, may i ask and each to there own of how they prefer there suspension, air / coils
isn’t the D3 and D4 better on air suspension as surely it would have been designed with springs in the beginning
can coils actually react better than being monitored by a computer
