Aftermarket removable tow bar |
|
Hi,
I´m waiting for my Disco 4 that should be manufactured in December. I didn´t order removable tow bar as the cost for that was more than 1.000 €
Question: Has anyone bought aftermarket tow bars and is it easy to install?
Thanks!

Did mine myself
The D4 takes the same towbar as the D3 which often come up on the site for sale.
The bigger issue is electrics as they are specific to the D4 and need to be activated once fitted.
You could get a price from Nick (The Large One) for all the above, but would then need someone with the appropriate Faultmate or similar to activate ...or failing that ...the dealer Cheers Ian

Thank you for info outofyorkshire
I´ll have to check tow bar dealers here in Finland. If there has to be done some electrics the LR dealer is might be only option for that... But there are two smaller independent LR service companies in Helsinki area. They might be able to do that for less €uros.

You might be better off buying the electrics kit from TLO in the UK, then you get genuine parts at (no doubt) a cheaper price than locally. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Hi,
you don't need much know how to do the electrics yourself:

Some cars don't have the electrics activated, this can be done by a LR dealer via software or via faultmate programming - if you find someone who has a full license.

I too would not pay land rover for the tow bar or electrics, So I bought one from e-bay new £120, wiring loom 2nd hand £45, and an hour to fit it all, £165 big saving over going near the steeler. Stevie J

Don't need to activate if you use genuine LR wiring kit. Much easier than messing about with a half arsed 3rd party kit.

... that depends on the market settings on your car - I had to change my settings from US to german configuration.
But if you have a european car, this won't be a problem.

A newbie question... Does this all mean that if mine doesn't have a tow bar I can buy a removable one (plenty on here) and a towing loom? Anything else required, or are all the mounting points already there?
Cheers

Yup everything is in place to plug and play, IIRC you remove the near side rear light cluster and access inside via the small cover in the boot and all connectors are there! Should be hour job tops!
