There were people on the flight but fewer than was wished for due to the Taliban refusing to let any more onto the flight. If one more person got out than might otherwise be the case it is A Good Thing.

Pen Farthing was on breakfast TV saying he was the only passenger on the flight. Take what he says with a pinch of salt that said.
The flight did rescue 90-100 dogs and 60-70 cats. Not sure that’s really significant as I personally know some people with half a dozen dogs and others with four to upwards of twenty cats.
It’s all a bit of a non story which will resonate with some animal lovers, but not with others. Has the present conflict come down to this and should we really care with everything else going on tbh?
Personally, I think he could have left the moggies behind, they’ll only start digging up someone’s garden and crapping in it. Plenty of strays of our own.
Im now back in the UK after 9 runs into Kabul as part of the airlift on the A400, my crew alone brought back over 1000 pax. The A400 can only officially carry 116 pax in one go, however we just ignored that and were bringing over 200 pax in one go. It has been a humbling experience and a privilege to be involved in the biggest Airlift since 1948.Si

Must admit I was surprised that the Taliban did not take some serious potshots at the last few aircraft taking off from Kabul.
Well done SC to you and rest of the crews bringing out Afghans and British.
Have seen some, shall I just say some insensitive comments from brain dead people on social media.
I wish the ordinary Afghan well but suspect that life will not be easy for 30+ million Afghans and suspect that there will be a major refugee crisis continuing over next few years.
I was on one of the first uK flights into Kabul on this OP, and they were taking pot shots at as while we we were waiting at the threshold... large calibre rounds were hitting the ground around 50m away 😉😉.Si

I would’ve thought this would now be a no go area for any Westerners.

It would appear that the leadership of the Taliban want to be considered by the west to be a legitimate government. Imprisoning / ejecting / shooting reporters won't help that cause. Of course, the Taliban is made up of various groups and some will be more hardline than others. So whether everyone gets the "be nice" message and acts upon it will be a factor in various governments deciding how to deal with the Taliban as a whole.
The Taliban have some internal fights on their hands already with the ISIS faction and the chap Saleh who is leading a local resistance to the Taliban. It will be the usual outcome, of course, with civilians being caught in the crossfire and suffering.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
