I suppose to get the radiator and intercooler cleaned is a start,
Gotta give mine a good clean before Salisbury (and prob after). Can the intercooler be cleaned our reasonably well with the bumper and Mantec guard left on or is it a bumber off job?????

Rob, do you think the egr problems are causing the revs to fluctuate up and down on cruise control acceleration? I'm really noticing mine is getting worse, and it seems to be doing it on normal non cc acceleration now. Acceleration from 60 - 80 is decidely stop start in a regular 1 second cycle.
I have no fan noise and seems plenty powerful though. Fuel consumption is averaging 21mpg over last 1000 miles, which is about 3mpg shy of long term average. I do have the roof rack on though.
I'm starting to grit my teeth for an out of warranty dealer visit
See you at Yarwell? we are leaving home at about 4pm Sat to go to hotel.
At the moment I'm not sure Gareth. I was really expecting a software update to solve the fluctuating revs thing. OF course, if they do all the work I request of them (which includes a new injector on cylinder 1) and the problem goes away then I'll never know what the single root cause was.
Depending on a meet up for wheels on Saturday morning, I might convoy down with you to Yarwell. I'll give you a call on Saturday.

I've just been out and taken my roof rack off, so it would be good to do a side by side fuel consumption comparison to Yarwell.
Well, the folks at Enterprise in Stockport worked through the night and found me an auto Discovery SE in Buckingham Blue. It feels just like home (aside from the missing chocolate fridge, bluetooth PTI, raised air intake, nudge bar, lights, sump guard, winch...)
It seems like I'm going to be weeks waiting for the new EGR valves, so I'm glad to have something which provides most of my creature comforts.
However, as I discovered at the weekend, I'm nowhere near as 'brave' (i.e. foolhardy) in someone else's car, even when it belongs to a big, faceless corporation. I think it could diminish my fun at Yarwell, Salisbury and Worcester (if I still have it then)
So Gareth, no need for a race on Saturday, we can stick to plan A and do the fuel economy test

what is this about rev fluctuating in cruise control?
Mine has started doing this, my fuel consumption is a bit all over the place (currently sub 20mpg ) and I have had an engine fault message which cleared itself as well.
Last dealer check recorded no stored faults therefore nothing wrong.
Got left for dead by a Td5 auto discovery the other day as well....and he was laden and I was empty so I may be a bit down on power as well end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

That defiantly sounds like an EGR valve (or valves) problem Spotter. Brute force and ignorance, the D3 does the rest.
I have had an engine fault message which cleared itself as well.

I'm dubious about what your dealer is telling you. I'm no expert, but I thought a fault (particularly one serious enough to put an engine fault message up) would stay in the system until cleared. I hope the dealers aren't clearing all the stored faults and then checking to see what comes up again. It's a valid thing to do, but only once you've taken a look at the historical faults. ... in my honest, but in all probability, invalid opinion.

....hmmm....oh well, I am sure the dealer has been missing me the last couple of weeks end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
I can't say that this will be true for everyone, but on my D3 I'm absolutely sure that none of the following
1) increased engine fan noise
2) lack of power
3) reduced economy
4) weird fluctuating revs when using the + button on the cruise control
is improved at all by replacing a faulty EGR valve.
However, the car is running a lot cleaner now, smoke output is visibly reduced, although this could be down to the JE tune being wiped (as per my instructions to the dealer to reload all engine, gearbox and suspension software).
Next plan is to strip down the front of the car (winch off, bumper off, rads out) and give them all a damn good hosing. So I've got another 4 weeks of poor performance and 21mpg to look forward to
