Advice needed re: nuts

I ordered in the Dynamic Tyres steel wheel and the Coopers STT's. Fitted them this morning (ready for all tomorrow's mud Razz ) and they look pretty good.

But the wheel nuts are different (of course! Embarassed ) but I did not think of that and I didn't order any in Evil or Very Mad .

They current nuts are tight, but the washer is loose and “free wheels”. I recon I can drive OK on them, until I get proper nuts - what's the general consensus?

Can you put another washer on the nut to pack it
I would be careful to make sure the wheel is fitting tightly

Tristan,

How about trying some of the non-factor LR parts places looking for wheels nuts that maybe used on older Discos or Defendes that had steel wheels. I don't know the stud diameter of the old models but if they are the same then I reckon it won't be hard to pick up a set of nuts for steel wheels.

I'm surprised the wheels didn't come with nuts anyway.

I wouldn't trust it if there is a washer free wheeling. This could put extra pressure on the studs, causing them to break.

I have a set of these wheels also (Dynamic steel). My supplier provided traditional zinc nuts fo about AUD1 ea. I considered using the nuts that came with the alloys since they had a taper and would probably do the job. I agree the washer would be loose. In the end I decided they would look cr@p, and the replacements were easy to get.

This afternoon I had the exact same scenario as Tristan...what can one say but arrrrr!! Evil or Very Mad

Whish I had seen this post earlier....it is always the small details that get over looked.

Madly now trying to find the required nuts, as the longer 'alloy' nuts just don't feel right to me and am off for a drive this weekend.

For the people with Dynamic Steel wheels - are you happy?

I ended up selling mine back to the supplier (no loss to me) because some of them weren't round (massive vibrations at 80km/h). I now use a CSA alloy (Explorer from memory) with the same Cooper 17" STT tyres fitted and now no more vibration....

I haven't noticed any nasty rumblings, but then I'm running MT tyres on the steel wheels, so maybe they mask it out?

I found that in a pinch, old Series 1 Landie wheel nuts fit!

Cheers,

Gordon

Interesting...I didn't realise Audi wheel nuts would fit a D3!

Dynamic Steel Rims and Cooper STT

I was not able to source wheel nuts in time for the trip, so went with the alloy nuts and their washers (used tape to hold the washer to the nut to stop it rattling around).

The Dynamic rims were fine for the trip....also suprised how good the rims looked in the silver...having a colour of Chawton White helped here though.

regards,
David
