Advice Needed on Cleaning Alloys / Brake Dust / Nuts
Picked up my Alloys today, and I am well chuffed, Not a Mark on them except the usual LR Brake Dust..
It starts to come off with some T Cut (only done a test section), but it will be a long drawn out process and I wanna get them on soonest...
Is there any products I can buy off the shelf that will aid removal, and then a final polish.
Also forgot to ask, I know these fit, Tyres are no good as are Load Rating 107 and pretty knackered except one that was a spare...Do my Nuts fit these, or do I need to change them

clean mine with tfr traffic film remover diluted about 40/60 with water. If its embeded in lacquer than clay bar medium to heavy duty grade with the detailing spray should do the trick

i use Auto Glym clean wheels! spray on leave for a few minutes, dont get it on brakes! work it with a softish bristle brush SWMBO's toothbrush is good, rinse off, job done!
But to be honest i'm so p+ssed off with cleaning brake dust off i'm getting my rims powder coated black or anthracite so it hides it a bit lol

Is that the same type as WONDER WHEELS.......
I have washed with soapy water, and removed all the grime, just now need something to soften or remove the gritty brake dust deposits...
Do any of these off the shelf cleaners work?

Wonder wheels works for me 8) use a paint brush to work it in if it needs a bit of help or a pan scrub (but not brillo pad obviously!) if it needs a lot of help

I use industrial de-scaling solution (basically phosphoric acid) diluted about 50/50 with water and just sprayed on to the rims, so long as the lacquer is good and intact it doesn't seem to harm the paint and brings the brake dust off a treat, saves a lot of scrubbing too.Clive

My center caps were on their way out but I think the Wonder Wheels accelerated their demise, so would reccommend removing these before you start.

Already have some New ones (Black Badged) on the wheels fitted on the D3 currently, removed the ones off the New Alloys to ensure a thorough clean

Mac, I get the stuff from a local cleaning products supplier (in Camberley.) I'm led to believe it's the same stuff that the (club) illegal car washers use on the wheels of their victims.
I would go easy on the Scotch pad though, unless it's really well used, the abrasive content is harder than the lacquer and it will scratch it to .Clive

Re the Scotch Pad, been rescued from Bin , the abrasiveness is almost unavailable...Will try on the Alloy Inner before risking it....
SO this industrial cleaner, whats it called

Hi MacLeod
I use Auto Smart HighStyle universal dressing on the vinyl and alloys it brings tar and brake dust off with one or two applications, wear gloves when applying. Then wash off and wax. You should then be able to wash the excess brake dust off with water, only needing reapplying once every two to three month or so.
Hope this helps
Forgot to say nice soft cloth is all that I useJules
