20" Rims, What Size tyres? |
|
Hi, I'm new to the site and have also been looking to fit 20" wheels to my D3, but the tyre size and load index has prevented me purchasing the rims. Has anyone fitted 20" rims with 265/50/r20 112W tyres? These are a little larger on the Diameter but give the added protection of a deeper wall depth, potentially smoother ride and the 112W load rating.
Will these fit OK or am I missing something???

compared with a "normal" D3 19" (255/55x19) a 265/50x20 is slightly larger, reading 60.8mph at a true 60. The difference is 1.3%, so you are within the 2.5% thats normaly seen as OK.
265 width would be OK, as 275 fits OK. Standard FFRR runs 255/50x20 (only 107 rated though) on 8" wide rims, RRS rims are 9.5" wide, but still OK with 265 tyres. (quite a few of us run 255/55x19 on 19" RRS rims at 9.5 wide)
Not sure what they'll look like though, as my 275/45's just didnt look "beefy" enough for me.
So, providing you can get tyres, you should be OK.

Hankook are towards the budget end of the market, but been around for quite a long time. Dont expect intergalatic mileage from these tyres. Most of the budget tyre places offer Nexen, Hankook, Toyo at good prices for such large tyres. I found 275/45x20 Nexens @ £75 each, fitted! Great tread pattern and depth, BUT, the car felt nervous on the road all the while. Its down to tyre constructon, and the cheaper then tyre, the lower the quality. If you plan to stick with 20's, then buy the best quality you can. Also, most of these large budget tyres are directional. Just something else to be aware of.

Gav - You should see if they do a General Grabber UHP's in that size - no time to check it out myself!
Owned by Continental.
Look nice n meaty for a UHP [pics in galery].
Many of us running 20's swear by this tyre.
Mine are 295/45's and cost me just over £100 incl vat and fully fitted. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
