Advice on lower front arms ???

Had a trip up the road to the Pigeon Tower/Rivington Pike above Horwich yesterday. Not challenging in off-road terms but deffo a good test to find anything loose …. which I suspect it did.

Had more of a rattle than I was expecting from somewhere between under my feet and front of car, with perhaps a bit of a clunk, but very minor. I was thinking at first I've left something loose whilst attempting to get alarm to use horns and/or fitting the air-horns (neither job finished yet Sad ) but then remembered I got these advisories at MoT in Feb …

1. ADVISORY
Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)

2. ADVISORY
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)

So … unless someone tells me otherwise, I'm going to have a look at those in next few days. Is it a quick DIY job or more complicated ? with it being half-term, SWMBO isn't working so chances of finding more than an hour at a time to do the work myself if zero or maybe less.

cheers,
 .

Dean

Get complete lower arms from AF, is always the advice. More expensive than just getting the bushes, but much easier. Don't forget you'll need the suspension alignment done after you've replaced the arms. Thumbs Up

ok … looks like this is going to have to be done sooner rather than later Sad ( and defer the auto-box flush or maybe DIY it as per Filo method ? ).

Looking at AF site they offer, amongst other variants, "standard" arm/bush combo at £115 per side or for £299 they offer "kit603--lemforder-oem-discovery-3-front-lower-suspension-arms--with-bolt-kit".

Is it worth the extra £70 ?

I might be confusing this with other parts, but isn't preferable to use the "beefier" RRS arms when replacing the originals?

search doesn't seem great on the AF site but here's more info …

Quote:

£294.00

KIT630 Meyle HD Front Lower Arms & Bolt Kits RR Sport, Discovery 3 & 4. 4 Year Warranty
£299.00

KIT600 Polyurethane Discovery 3 & 4, Range Rover Sport Front Lower Arms & Kit For Air Sus. Models
£345.00

KIT614 Lemforder OEM Range Rover Sport Front Lower Arms & Bolt Kits LR029304 + LR029306 & D4
£299.00

£145.31

LR028245 LR029304 LR075993 Delphi TC2163 Right Lower Wishbone Discovery 3 & 4, RRS
£114.00

so … aside from the £145 ones, all mention RRS.

From other stuff on here I'll not go for the Polyurethane option … so that leaves £230 / £294 / £299.

Plus labour plus 4 wheel alignment.

AF has new a discount code, the rebate proportional to spend Thumbs Up look for the announcement on their forum here.

Lemforder bushes are AFAIK the same as what you would get if you bought genuine.

Filos oil change doesn’t apply to D4s. Check the warranty on arms and bushes, you can’t go wrong with 2 years fron AF.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

bump !!

anyone got an opinion on the best lower arms/bushes from AF ? are the £290+ options better than the £230 ? and if so, which … Meyle or Delphi or Lemforder ???

Too many choices. Confused

I've had Meyle HD for a different car (VW Passat, notorious for failing front suspension arms), and found the Meyle to be worse than standard.
Even with all the advertising about 're-designed' and 'better than original', the first set only lasted 5K miles, then I complained to Meyle UK, and got another set, also only lasing <10K miles.

I used Febi replacements on the VW, and had no trouble since.

Just my opinion though, I know others have used Meyle without issue. Thumbs Up

I’ve got genuine UCA front and rear and genuine LCA rear. The front LCA are some kind of aftermarket (didn’t seem to have a visible label or stamp anymore) and they’re ok, too.

I have got Meyle ARB bushes and drop-links front and rear. No complaints on any of these, either.

I don’t think any of the ones you suggested are “bad” so it comes down to your wallet and soft signals from the branding. Thumbs Up

Hi,

Just fitted myle hd lower fronts to my disco, getting the old bolts off was the worst part.

And you can buy the new bolts from land rover £35 for the four new bolts and nuts. I reused the two suspension bolts.
 Jaguar I-Pace HSE imminent.
Gone HSE with Flappy Paddles. IID BT tool. RLD Spare Protector, Altox GPS.
