Advice on D4 purchase / crankshaft failure |
|
Hi all, had D3 for 6 years, sold earlier this year and now looking for D4 from main dealer.
Have been offered an HSE 2014, 55000 miles.
It has just been fitted with a new engine due to crankshaft failure, had about £8K of work in the LR dealer apparently, I will try to get detail of what exactly has been done.
Half of me is put off by this and the other half thinks it might be a good one to go for.
It will come with standard 1 year LR approved warranty.
Would appreciate informed opinions ASAP as need to make a decision on it.
Many thanks in advance

If the price is right go for it, but take out a Warranty Direct policy whilst still covered by the LR warranty, and during that time have all services carried out by a JLR franchisee.
Good luck.

have just been reading the various threads on Warranty and Crankshaft failure - scary reading.
If I understand correctly, as the car would have an approved used warranty, not a manufacturers warranty - then further crankshaft failure would not be covered.
Did I understand that correctly?
Even though it has a brand new engine?!
I am/was considering taking it with the standard approved used 1 year warranty, and extending that to 2 years at the time of purchase. 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

It appears that the Warranty Direct policy is better; see this thread:-
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/back-new-en...84197.html
As you say it appears that the approved used warranty, as opposed to the manufacturers warranty or Warranty Direct will not cover crankshaft failure.
