you are correct (on diesels)

in fact the fluid won't go in the wrong way, so you have to do as you say

Had judder around 30mph and in 6th between 55 and 70

Its an awkward job getting it into the cooler, next time I will tilt the car and put it in the level plug hole.

Judder has just about's been eliminated I plan to flush the fluid again when the spring gets here and add another tube of Dr Tranny.

Overall impressed as the initial fluid (7Ltrs) and filter change did not improve the judder much. but now with Dr Tranny added it has dramatically improved 6th gear.

If I were you two, I'd be getting the flush sooner rather than later, especially you, Dave.

A flush done too late is almost as bad as none. Dr Tranny may disguise the problems but it doesn't mean they're prevented from developing still. Thumbs Up

Olly, black smoke is most commonly caused by a split (or de-laminated) turbo hose, as Dave says, or EGR failure (searches should bring up lots of info on these). As yours is a EU3 model, EGR blanking is simple and highly recommended. Thumbs Up

If you put Dr Tranny in with the fresh oil... won't that also eventually disguise the symptoms when the fresh oil wears out.... in the same way it disguises the symptoms of the old oil?....

Paid particular attention to this thread after I started getting the odd shudder and the fluctuations with revs so I decided to order a tube of Dr Tranny from Amazon (12.99) Glad I did as I called into VMTP, Nick took a test drive and confirmed the dreaded Tc on its way out Big Cry Anyway having told the wife of the cost to replace the Tc and have the box refurbished I decided to follow the excellent advice on here, got a length of tubing, attached directly to the cooler 10 mins later all done. Test drive of around 6 miles doing 40-50 mph and then some motorway speeds done ( at these speeds I was getting the hunting/rev fluctuations and shudders when pulling away through the gears) Result... Perfect Thumbs Up Not a thing Thumbs Up I am getting the work required done but for now until I've the spare funds available Thumbs Up Thanks to everyone on the forum for their advice and input Bow down

i did mine about a year ago, 1 tube (barely) squeezed in.
The judder is just starting to come back again, dunno whether to try another tube or bite the bullet and do the torque converter.
One thing I have noticed is that when the revs fluctuate (usually only noticable on motorway driving), I find that if I knock the auto elver across and up into manual mode (6th gear) and drive it like that, the revs dont fluctuate. I'm guessing that this may help lower the wear on the lockup clutch?

Got some Dr Tranny to put in. Was going to jack up one side and put it in the gearbox level filler.
I understand the engine needs to be kept running but do I need to remove the equivalent amount of oil to make way for the additive or just bung it in?
Thanks
Stuart

just bung it in.

Do it in the morning, when the gearbox is cold.

I've just added a second tube as mine was still iffy. The second tube has made a huge difference. Iirc the gearbox needs to be warm with the engine running. I added mine by driving the disco up on ramps on the driver side, chocking the wheels, in park, ebp on and father sat in drivers seat with foot on the brake pedal just to be on the safe side. Noticed I've got a weeping leak on the gearbox sump gasket so that's another job to the list.

If I tilt one the car by driving up a ramp do I need to have the engine running? Surely the angle will prevent any TF from spilling out won't it?

So I added the Dr Tranny but lost about 20ml of oil in the process. Will this be an issue?

Done mine this morn.
Car up on ramps, remove undertray, and went direct into filler hole. No oil lost, and two tubes squirted in. Massive difference, no judder at all now. That will do me for two months and will get new torque converter fitted.
Less than 15 mins of work, brilliant result.
