I know that Diesel exhaust fluid meeting ISO standard 22241-1 -also known as DEF, AdBlue, AUS 32 and ARLA 32 is what is required.
The question is do I need a special JLR bottle to refill the tank on the car, and when that bottle is empty can I refill it with "generic" AdBlue as long as it meets ISO standard 22241-1.
In the alternative if a buy a container of AdBlue can I easily pour it into the car's tank without a "widget"?

If you buy the small containers they come with a length of pipe with a connector at both ends, one locks on to your container the other locks on the filler spout. We buy it in 20l containers comes with a spout that you screw on to the container and fits inside the filler on the D4.
The smaller containers are easier, especially if the wife needs to do it but eye watering expensive.
Can get 20l for the £17 but the fancy 4l top up is over £10.
Some forecourts sell it at the pump, be careful, normally the nozzle is designed fo trucks, more over you than in the tank, one near me has it at 79.9 ppl.

The 10L containers have a filling adapter attached to the side. The last one I used was Shell which was on offer for £10. Easy to use on my own. Halfords have 10L for £11.

The Halfords 10l stuff definitely comes with a little spout, that's what I use myself
I agree with the comments about decanting into a smaller bottle if you're not able bodied. I'm fairly fit and holding 10 litres still for the 5 mins it takes to fill without spilling any can be a challenge  2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320
