Nick,
Have just gone through the thread you pointed me at in detail.........still not got it straight (in my head that is as it is somewhat dark and cold outisde and not D3 playtime!!)
The picture you have shown with the lever detail is either the opposite light or the same light taken from the opposite angle as the picture of the full cluster?!?
Basicaly when you refer to UK lever A 'up' (B down) from which angle are you looking at the light? The picture where you show the full cluster on the bench, I am assuming that that light is the driver side and you are stood over it in the same way as if you were sat behind the light from the drivers seat when it is fitted? If so, is this the angle that you move the lever 'A' up for UK?
(God I hope that made sense cos it was bl**dy impossible to explain!)
Onto the subject of the position of the levers!!!
Do both driver and pasenger lights need to be fully seated either fully up or fully down? I am not positive but I think the drivers side was positioned in the middle of its travel before I started messing........In true ham fisted fashion I think I moved the lever before I noted its position so now have not a clue if they are set correctly (meant to take a quick drive out earlier to make sure I wasn't acting as a set of mobile landing lights for the local airport but forgot until on glass of wine number 3!)
In summary, which way up are the lights when you say up and down and what position does each lever need to end up in for a, UK and b, Europe??
I hope that wasn't too painful a read?!?!?!?

And have now just read Oscid's post (that will teach me to go straight to the last post when tracking a thread!)
To summarise:
Take lights out of car,
Place in wheelie bin at side of house,
Shake violently,
Place lights back in car.
Car is now ready to be driven into the English Channel
As an alternative I could reverse through France?

After reading this, the £5.99 headlight stickers from the Auto shops seems like the serious alternative ! ..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

I was thinking of nipping down to Halfords now however I have two issues; a, they are shut and b, the lights will probably illuminate everything around me apart from the road ahead

Remove the back cover on the lights from inside the engine and the smallest of levers is in the light. Flip it across job done. You may need a little screwdriverto flip it across and a mirror to see it. My dealer did it for me the first time and took about 5 minutes.

I can get at the leve no problem Brian - the issue I have is that I need to know where the levers should end up. When I looked at my drivers side the lever was in the middle!!! (the clip not the lever that moves the clip)
I just need to know required positions for the levers for a, UK driving and then b, Europe.
When we say up/down etc I am looking at the back at the lights as if I were sat in the drivers seat facing the back of the lights.......so up would be up towards the sky!!!
(how useless am I at explaining myself?!?!?! )

ST, I would call by the dealer and I think you will find they will do it in seconds, mine does. I cannot recal the exact position now and as I don't have a D3 at the moment can't take a look.

This was 6 moths ago & I can not remember!
I will take a look again as I'm off to France in 3 weeks time, but I still can not see I can do this with the lights still fitted to the car as my hands are just too big!

Has anyone found out what the definitive light setting is yet? I've trawled through posts for hours now and still can't work out if it's move lever "A" up for UK or down for UK?
I took my lights out to check as the beam pattern is awful and my passenger side lever A up, and drivers side Lever A down - which one needs changing?
Help!
Cheers
Simon

Problem solved.... Curiosity got the better of me and I took the bulb out!
Holding the unit up to the sunlight with the bulb removed showed the deflector moving when lever position changed. It took me a while to notice as the deflector only moves about 1mm from a kinked metal rail to a totally horizontal flat blank: The lever just swings a small metal tab over the standard deflector profile, removing the kink/bias and leaving a totally neutral beam pattern.
So, it looks like lever down for UK, so that the painfully sharp metal indicator tab is located in the upper-most position (or counter-clockwise position), when viewed from the drivers seat.
I've got to change my sidelight bulbs at some point this week so I may attempt to take a 'definitive photo' of the deflector positions with the bulb out for both lever positions.
Regards
Simon
