ABS poltergeist
Hi, wonder if someone has seen this one before. When you drive from standstill upto about 50 km/h you feel and hear a thumping/clunking sound coming from left section of the engine compartment (LHD), feel it most in the throttle pedal. Thump-thump......thump-thump-thump.....thump-thump.....thump. Goes away when driving faster or do not notice anymore.
No faults - no warning lights
At the moment you de-activate DSC by pressing the switch it stops.
So far:
swapped the yaw sensor with another one - no difference
replaced ABS modulator - no difference
checked live values with IID: wheel speed at all 4 corners.
Steering angle ok (When I got the D3 it had a loose Steering wheel sensor collar but glued it in place and sits tight now, giving normal steering wheel angle readings (did a calibration as well)
The giveaway must be DSC - without it being active the thumping is gone?
Hope someone can help.
many thanks on forehand

The DSC works in conjunction with the switch pack in the centre console. Firstly has any liquid got in there - drink, sunroof etc. There is a connector under the switch pack that has given problems before, also switch pack may be faulty. Another problem could be different size/type of tyres on the front

@Globetrotter448: what switch pack exactly do you refer to? I am aware of the small brown/orange connector connecting to the gear lever cover, one connector sits down in the right corner of the gear lever housing, you think that one can cause problems?
@mikeBob: All wheelbearings seem fine with no play. If TC kicks in, why doesnt the light show on the IPC.
Could it be some kind of self test that is overdoing it?
All tyres are new and exactly the same.

The connector is c0700 and its under the 'yellow' switch which controls hill descent

Tried with a different rotary switch but same result. Newer tires of the same size. Noticed that my own MY07 does the same, but only one clunk is felt when driving away. Must be some self test or activation. The giveaway must be that when turning off DSC it doesnt happen any more.
