A9 Fuel warning
3 days ago I was coming north for the Lakes towing a 24 foot Swift Challenger sitting about 70 -75 in 6th and getting 19.6 - 18.3 according to the trip. At Blair Athol my passengers wanted a "comfort break", so I pulled into the services. The range showed 100 miles left with about 80 to home I decided to fuel up, however at 1.38 I baulked and only put in £30. Back on the road - no more traffic than before but after about 5 miles the car really struggled to pull causing me to drop into 5,4th and even 3rd in bits. Fuel went to 15.7 mph.I even had the wife check the reciept showed diesel.
Before refueling at Tesco, Inverness at £1.24 less the 5p coupon, I put some Milner Power 4 fuel system cleaner (someone on here had given it a plug) but was still expecting a dealer visit to check EGR valves or the like. To my surprise and delight it's now showing 27.8 as opposed to my normal 21.3, and running sweet and smooth.
Can't guarantee it was the additive that has cured it, but I certainly won't be fueling there again.Chipped, K&N, tow pack, AT2's, Mantec, fridge in boot, invertor, Garmin, laptop/Memory Map, Optima yellow top, Traxide Kit, Phillips Extreme bulbs

I think it was me plugging the Miller's. At least I gave it a good mention. Just been down to Tenby and back, 700 miles including jaunts; 30.4 mpg on the way down via M6, M5, M50, A46 and M4 with 2 hours worth of hold.ups and loaded to the gunwhales; 30.5 on the way back via Aberystwyth and not hanging about. And the extra oomph! It just gets better . . .
BTW it's £12.99 locally. Is that a good price?

Thats over £20 per bottle [inc p&p] from Brumlee's e-bay guy.
So question is how much do you add to the tank.
I've been using Wynns Diesel Injector Protector @£5.99.
It's one bottle per tank but extra mpg isn't great....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

From ebay listing
Quote:
500 ml bottle with ratio instructions and easy to measure bottle.
Treat at double strength for an extra boost.
Probably a bit like the old redex, where you squeezed a certain amount into the top of the bottle for 'x' amount of litres.

I'm using one squeeze-filled measure (20ml) per 20 litres [or 1,000:1] - 4 doses for an 80 litre fill.
Bottle at £12.99 is 500ml and should "do" 500 litres, or 6+ tanks.
Is it worth asking my guy for a quantity price?

Donald, I had similar problems with a garage in Callander, Shell garage & defender was driving like a pig till I got a fresh tankfull. Mind you have had similar with Tesco Inverness, sluggish & low mpg then topped up at Dunblane & Carlisle on run south & mpg went from 22 to 28 for same type of driving. Now stick to Esso of Shell, even if a 5p off voucher.

It comes in 5 litre trade cans which is how I got mine, worked out at about 60% of the retail cost if I recall but cant remember exact price I paid.
If you visit Millers web site they list retailers; I used one in Totton near Southampton they were very helpful and keenly priced but I brought 10 litres. Used them for buying the earlier Diesel Plus in bulk over the years.
If you drill a 1mm hole in the neck area of the 500 ml retail dispenser to let the air out they are easy to refill. Then screw in a brass wood-screw to seal it and store vertically. That's the way I cope with handling it rather than using the bulk containers.

Yes Dingmark,
Also know that they are instructing pilots to cut back jet revs in streams to reduce fuel consumption.....
which could get very cold...
