8 speed gearbox oil change...
My 2013 D4 8speed is coming up for its 4th service.
I was wondering if anyone had thought it necessary to get the gearbox oil changed? I understand a flush is not possible?

Gareth, I'm in the same position.
I was hoping to get it flushed, but that was more to help Geoff iron-out any niggles doing the first one. Unfortunately our suns have not aligned and as I found some cheap gearbox fluid I plan on doing a single flush now and then another single flush in another 15k.
I have already promised a member to do a full write-up with pictures when I do it.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Thanks Robbie, very helpful. I have a few weeks to think about it, but I feel the change quality is starting to become noticeable.
Thanks Chap

There has been quite a bit of ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid on eBay recently. I purchased some for £12 a bottle and some at £15 - this a fraction of the JLR list price:

Out of interest,if a "flush" as such is currently unattainable, how much oil IS left in the cooler during a normal oil change ?"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

It may well be possible but would cost more than the car or the purchase of a new D4. Best bet is to save your money and invest that in the complete D4MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Not done an 8-speed before but guessing around 4 to 5 litres.

It's only the proposed megaflush plan that will leave some oil in the cooler. I reckon this will leave around 400ml left, which is inconsequential to the benefits of the dialysis.
With a simple drain and fill (aka single flush, which is what I plan to do) you only remove the oil in the lower part of the box, with around half of the oil trapped in the torque converter (just over 4 litres).

Has this moved on anywhere yet? I can't find information anywhere, plenty for 6 speed like videos and service guides but nothing for the 8 speed.
Kev contacted mackies transmissions, the Scottish ZF specialists and was quoted £500 +VAT for a service and hot flush, hell of an additional price to be paying every 50k or so.Joined the BMWX5 45e group
