If ever I needed justification for the D4 last week was it.
All the talk of performance upgrades, 0 - 60 figures etc, aren't for me. I'm more interested in the 60 - 0 figures and last week my choice of vehicle was justified. Travelling along at a comfortable 45 mph I round a corner just as a van pulls out and stalls in front of me. I hammered on the brakes and the D4 controlled its stop without skidding and left me just inches from the horrified vans driver's door. (Squeaky bum moment to say the least )
Had I been in the previous rice burning pickup or even my earlier TD5 Discovery the van driver would probably have been on his way to hospital. at best!!
Having had the pickup written off (through no fault of my own I hasten to add) a few weeks ago I really did not need another prang. I am so thankful I was back in the good old Green Oval and it responded superbly when needed.Tony

No in car vid = didn't happen.
Will need it for next time as these things come in 3s.
Apparently, and I hope I never have to try this, but if you engage the EPB at the same time, you can stop even quicker as the car throws everything it's got at braking!!! Just pull the EPB up and hold. Don't think it matters if you use the brake pedal as it will brake maximally from the EPB switch. Sort of Dead Man's Handle for the passenger in an emergency.

Correct, and its very spectacular!
I along with 5 other members of this forum were lucky to be passengers with a LRE test driver in control, on the braking straight at Gaydon, in a D4 when this feature was demonstrated at about 110 mph!
Very impressive.

Not really as there is a reasonable pause and warning bong before it actually activates, so brake pedal is much quicker.
It is an impressive emergency system though, with various fall-backs if bits of the braking system have failed. It will even stop a fully-laden D4 from stupid speed to zero even if all the brake fluid has gone.

I'm not sure, but think there is an option to turn off audio recording on my dashcam. To be honest it was a good job I didn't have it last week...the language recorded would have been very choice to say the least. Tony

I've tried the "clean the face of the discs" stop a few times and the stopping power was pretty impressive for a big heavy lump.
I had to stand on the left pedal for the first time in anger a couple of months ago, having met a foreign motorhome coming round a blind bend on the wrong side.
They really are very good when you need them 8)"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
