Sudds - thanks for the info.
Are you thinking of doing the mod?
Hmmmm.......You've now put doubts in my mind Robbie.
My car is low mileage so have no worries on that score but last thing I would want is to goose the gearbox.
I assume the original software could be redownloaded into the gearbox if there's problems?
Has anyone had this mod done and able to provide comment?

Perhaps goose the gearbox was a bit exaggerated
Knowing you can go back is reassuring.

There is no issue with the software per se, just a few features of the ZF gearbox that you must appreciate before flashing the transmission.
It is essential that the transmission adaptions are reset with a diagnostic tool before attempting a reflash. ZF have big warnings about this in their workshop manual and call it their 'Golden Rule'. If you do not reset the adaptions the original and assumed values will be wrong; when the new software is loaded and subsequent adaptions take place can take the transmission beyond its maximum adaption limits. If this point is reached there is no amount of reflashing that will correct it.
Again, always reset the transmission adaption with a diagnostic tool before reflashing the transmission.
The point over high milage / poor servicing or transmissions with faults is that the adaptions may already be critical. If you reset the adaptions on a box that is being held together by bad oil the adaption reset procedure may take it over the edge and expose the dormant failures (much in the same way that fresh oil in a poorly gearbox can expose failures). The only way to recover from this is an overhaul.
Low milage, well-servced and error free transmissions pose no risk.

gvw, I was looking at this mod after reading the initial post. But after what Robbie has said I will look into it a bit more. I can appreciate what Robbie and Wggs have said, so I will gather a bit more info first.

It shouldn't put you off, just a reason to exercise some care. These are powerful tools capable of quite invasive tasks and used appropriately they will produce outstanding results.

I like to think that the flappy paddles are no different to changing gear with the tiptronic on the gear box.Filming something somewhere...

I did 106000 miles with my last D4 and had flappy paddles on ( wether remotely or software ) and never had any issues or a gearbox flush !G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The transmission re-flash which enables the flappy paddles as been available for our professional users for a few months now. At this point in time, it has not been released to the general public but we can provide it to you if needed. Keep in mind that it will only work on vehicles fitted with the SDV6
It says only sdv6. I assume this includes the 2010 3.0 td6 in the HSE's ? As far as I'm aware they're identical.
Only just found this thread - great news as I've had a heated RRS paddle wheel fitted for 18 months but always thought it wasn't possible to enable on the D4. Hopefully I'll be able to use my original IID tool to update the transmission ECU, just waiting for Gap to get back to me on how it's done.
Has anyone else enabled paddles using the non BT IID tool?Previously:
