6 sp gearbox question D4

Is it normal for the 6 speed to seem like it hangs onto 2nd gear and almost sounds like its slipping when applying just a light throttle? It seems to progress well from 1st to 2nd, and from 3rd, 4th and 5th, but does tend to (sound) likes its slipping around in 2nd gear. I had put it down to the torque of the engine and the convertor as previous cars have been DSG and change very quicky.

I just wanted some advice/opinions before I approached LR with a daft query! (I have a warranty so am not worried about bills)

Anyone with a D4 6 speed, can they confirm the change from 2nd to 3rd is different/same as mine?

Can't say I have noticed anything like what you describe, I'm afraid.
Only complaint I have is the (very) occasional hesitation in finding the right gear after braking into roundabouts or tight bends - a phenomenon which is well-documented on here and was much improved by a megaflush courtesy of Geoff.
Sounds (from the silence) like your box has a "personal" problem.

No - my 2011 D4 is smooth, I don't really notice the change.
In fact, I had the 8-speed D4 as a courtesy car for a couple of days and thought my 6-speed was smoother.

Not noticed anything like that on mine - if you have a warranty, I'd take it back in so you get piece of mind

Cheers folks, I'm going to give the dealers a call in the morning.
It could well just be on a light throttle.

If I press 30% the car just moves through all gears with no issue whatsoever.

I'll get it clarified though.

I have noticed on some occasions that mine holds gear longer than I would expect but it's not often or ever really given me cause for concern Thumbs Up

It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Yes, my 2010my does that, mainly if I'm static on the throttle and if there's a bit of an uphill gradient. But I thought it was normal - which it appears it is.

(Always nice to discover you're normal).

Well my 8 speed does exactly the same thing. Dealers say there's nothing wrong with it and it's "gear change strategy" but I've yet to drive another one that does the same thing Rolling Eyes

I am sure there was a TSB for this issue on VIN ranges of 6 speed boxes. Idea
Try a search.
