6 discs eaten in CD changer

Well had my Disco 2 months now, apart from the low coolant level alarm all was well until yesterday, the 6 disc auto changer ate my CD's, all it could say was, CD error Crying or Very sad Took it to the local dealership, they said it will require replacing and to get the CD's out of the broken one will require shipping to the CD manufacturer, is this a common problem?

it is common if you find recorded on CD's. The ones you burn your own stuff onto are thinner that the ones you buy from a music shop. If the maker finds these in there it might invalidate the warranty as it does with some makes.

They were all original CD's, didn’t think non originals would invalidate the warranty though Confused .... a few of the CD’s were the wife’s Xmas presents so she will not be happy if they come back in bits

As the unit is specifically designed and sold as one that will play MP3 tracks, the type of disc will make no difference to the warranty.

This happened to mine a little while back, in the end I decided that I'd 'confused' it with dirty cds. I can't remember how I solved the CD Error problem, and got my discs back out of it, I probably just kept trying over and over, restarting the ignition, turning the radio on and off, holding down the eject button, eject all from the menu. Stuff like that.

However, I did manage to fix it without dealer intervention, and now that I give the cds a bit of a polish before i put them in, I've not had a problem since.

Hudsonian - what type of music were you trying to play??
If it was the Alexander Brothers, Andy Stewart, Bay City Rollers etc .....
....well I can sympathise with the CD unit!!

Don't let them take the unit out. I had the same problem and as described by Bobby, it is possible to get the unit to eject the CD's. Just hit the eject button as soon as you turn the ignition on. After a couple of tries it worked for me.
Dunno why this happens. In my case, the kids had been playing with the nav, so maybe they jammed a cd in there or something.

Baben, what is the concern about removing the unit? Surprised

They were all relatively new cd's and all originals. It happened when disc 4 ended and the cd player was swapping to disc 5. I have tried playing with the "eject all" and "on and off" tricks, nothing worked. Once the dealership had a play, it now no longer recognizes it has discs inside Surprised I am told it is all under warrantee so should be OK (I hope)?

Just been out to try for one more time, when you try to eject a disc, or all discs I can hear a humming sound for 2 or 3 seconds followed by CD error, tried many times with no success.

not being funny on this one Hudsonian. But did you give the unit a thud whilst it was whirring or eject button pressed? Sounds if some extra persuasion might be of use?

soundslike there's a CD jammed midway between changing, hve you used all the CD slots before? it's possible that not all the transit screws have been removed properly. try disconnecting the battery for a couple of munutes then reconnecting, this will force a re-stack of the CD's, if this doesn't work, it's off to the dealers

Sorry hudsonian, was just trying to help.
Wasn't talking about hitting it with something like a sledgehammer!!
Was thinking more a thud with the ball of your hand!
Anyway, don't know how LR would be aware that you gave it a persuasive thud, if anything untoward were to happen?

10forcash: I think the dealer disconnected the power, when I got the car back from the dealership all the pre-set radio stations had cleared. All CD slots were full and the display that once showed full after dealership intervention now show empty... so I think the power was disconnected to it in their attempt to fix it... looks like I will just have to wait for the new unit...
