6 CD / Radio
Could someone please help me, as my CD/Radio has permanently stuck in Phone Mode, and Stratstone's Bury have advised me that the Head Unit has got wet.
First question is - Where is the head unit - so I can understand how it got wet.
Second question is - how do I dismantle the car to get to the Head Unit to examine the part myself - Dealer says that water has got in via some ventilation holes on the top of the unit and this has damaged the unit.
The thing is that the radio works sometimes and not others, so whilst there might be water marks on the electonics in the Head Unit I'd challenge that these are causing the kit to switch to Phone Mode all the time.
Any help wiould be appreciated.

Remove 'H' trim around radio unit and you'll see the screws to remove the unit. You can also see the top of it under the satnav/cubby space

Head unit is the actual in-dash radio cd player, as above, easy to remove once H trim is off, just a series of 6 to 8 torx screws.
If water has got in here then I'd be worried as its in the middle of the dash so either you have spilled something around the satnav screen area that's run down or have a leak on the car (windscreen maybe?)2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Not wishing to snap anything, which is the H Trim and what is the technique to remove it (don't want to just shove a screwdriver in somewhere and hope the trim comes off in one piece).

Basically you need to get hold of it at either side towards the bottom, just above the cup holders and pull firmly towards you, it will swing out and up and you can then pull the vent tubes out. It will be stiff but you just need to be firm, worst that can happen is the little metal clips may ping off!2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
Coffeecup, I notice your car is 2008, is it not still in warranty If so get them to sort it, as has been said, unless you / someone has spilt something on it the is an underlying problemI'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

I have no recollection of spilling anything over the dashboard - indeed I'd have anticipated the Sat/Nav would have also been impacted if I had done. Vehicle has been to Stratstone Bury who did look at this under warranty but found the Head Unit to be 'water' damaged (leakage in through cooling holes in the top of the unit).
What I would like to do is take the unit out and examine it myself and see if it can be fixed at all, else I will seek to aquire another head unit and drop it in.
