Hi Davo,
Have a think about the Hella Compact 4000 HID. They are really bright & very white! Superb quality with cast housings and optical glass lenes. Fit easily on the A bar.
I have 4 on the rack and will be changing the LR one's on my A bar when cash allows...
Cheers, Richard.

Going back to the issue of replacing the bulbs in LR driving lamps, has anyone got/seen the Philips DiamondVision lamps? rated at 55w but have 5000k whte light output or any other good (non xenon HID) bulbs?
I would like to get the best light output from my lamps but either
1 stay within legal (55/60w) limits
2 or get the best output bulbs but without melting or damaging the reflectors and covers of the lamps
I'm not going to change the lamps so any comments on this?

TD when I had the Hella 3000's on mine, I put the Halfords branded version of the 'Xenon' bulbs in and they were a fair bit 'brighter' than the standard halogens, whether there was actually any better visibilty I'm not really sure but they looked a lot better!and theeeeennn......???

Anyone know of a conversion kit to make this crappy LR 55w lights into HID's? Brighter and draw less power, so existing harness should be okay, right?

I am doing this;
- either removing the lot and fleabaying it all..
- upgrade the LR ones to something that actually works...
I have said this before but am sure you need to ECU the spot lamps in or something ???
Have also toyed with a Chris Tyler set up and flush mouting some into the grill....
Nick
on the A bar lettering I used liquid gasket sealant and its perfect. Tried that 3m tape stuff, wasn't strong enoughD4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

55W LR LAMPS
TazDaz wrote:
I think TFC said some people have uprated the LR Lamps to 100w
but I can't find any posts relating to that.
I want to uprate mine from 55w also
I've also looked for other posts on this without success - I've managed to uprate from 55W to 100W on cheap spots (like Ring Rally Giants) on my D1 without a problem. Surely it's possible to up the wattage on the LR ones.

Having looked at aftermarket kits for HID lights they are just too expensive for fitting to a couple of driving lamps.
So I have decided to go for replacement bulbs, either PIAA or Philips bulbs (based on web research) - both of these types that use 55/60w and produce a 'white' light with an equivalent rated light output of 100/110w and a temp colour around 4000 kelvin.
There seem to be some good bulb tests carried out by Autoexpress, looking at the amount of light that is available at a distance of 70 metres in front of driver. For example, the Philips X-treme Power produced a beam rating at 107 metres!
As I don't have my vehicle at present, who can tell me what the bulb type is in the LR lamps?
When I get this info I'll compare some offerings from these bulb manufacturers and fit some. Will be posting pics & review of these later.

Hi,
LR "wimp" bulbs are Osram Germany 12v 55w H1. 64150
But being honest it is not the bulbs at fault it is the shape
of the reflector in the lamps it gives off a flood light, instead
of a direct beam.I bought a pair of stainless lamps for
about £50 3 years ago, they have been brill, will try and post
pictures later.
Hope this helps. Always walk behind a Shooter and

Hi CarverD3,
They are not cheap, about £240 UKP each. I was fortunate to be able to get them at a very good trade price. They are so white it is unbelievable!
Before anyone asks, I am unable to get a group buy.. I asked but it was a favour..Sorry.
