4-wheel alignment, South Coast? |
|
When Andy and his crew fitted my new General ATs today we discovered that the inside edge of the rear drivers side tyre was worn more than the outside.
I feel a bit daft for not noticing it before, especially as the same tyre had both a screw and a nail sticking out of it. I’ve known all four were going to be changed soon so haven’t really taken any notice of them recently.
Now the odd wear pattern may be due to running the tyre around low on pressure, but I’d like to get the wheel alignment checked quite soon so the nice shiny new AT doesn’t go the same way.
It could also be due to the bushes on the rear arm being worn of course.
Can anyone recommend a specialist close to Portsmouth that could check the wheel alignment for me, and maybe the wishbone bushes?
I won’t be doing it for a couple of weeks as I have an MOT to go through, and there is of course the possibility that something will need changing that will necessitate the alignment being done again.
Thanks

They suggested a main dealer, but that was probably because they knew I wasn't local and they were too busy to do it today.
I'll probably give my local independant West 4x4 a call to see if they can do it or suggest anyone, maybe even get them to check out the bushes etc first.
Not knowing what they are like as standard, I'm not sure I could tell if they were worn or not by leavering with a crowbar.

To get tracking right, you need to put it in tight tolerance mode and fill the fuel tank. Most main dealers set it up and get a local tyre place to do the alignment. I think it's £140 all in for Guy Salmon to do it.
I think you would be wasting your money just taking it to a normal tyre shop.
West 4x4 have a Faultmate so can put it in the right mode and then you can nip to a local tyre place for tracking. Might be worth trying to get the GTR instructions for wheel alignment to take with you to tyre place.

I need some ARB bushes done on the back. I was considering having the whole car done at once with Poly Bushes as she has now done 100K miles. I was put off when I was told that this process would require a 4 wheel realignment after fitting of the new bushes and the whole job could take 3 days I think I will now just do the bushes that are shot and live with the tyre wear.

Like JohnnyChainsaw I have used

for tyres for my MGB GTV8 & XK150, and they have always been excellent.
Worth a try.

Hi
I,ve used micheldever for tyres and they are pretty good but i cant see how a normal tyre company can set the geometry up on a D3 without the proper equipment heres a quote from the EAS ECU help files.
quote
The Tolerance state of the EAS ECU should be set to tight tolerance state for any geometry measurement and adjustments.
