Is it possible to program a third remote key? The dealer says no!
I can't see why not though, he says you can only have two programmed at once and a third will over-write one of the others.
Thanks

It's on page 46 of my owners manual and says the following, I don't see that you should have to have a seat position memory to be able to have 3 keys, what model D3 have you got?
The manual says this.
Your vehicle can memorise up to three different
driver seating positions, for each of three
possible starter keys. This enables three
separate drivers to achieve optimum comfort at
the touch of a button. 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Aha! I have got a HSE TDV6 - 55 plate.
I bought a new key and igniton barrel and door lock, off ebay. I will need the actual key bit for my car, but they are only £12 from the dealer, but they said they couldn't program a third remote!
I think I'll go to an independant and see if they can do it!
Thanks for the info - I'll check my manual and go and see them with it - see what they have to say!

Excellent - thanks!
Now then - to the cost! The dealer said that reprogramming a key is .5 hour - or about £45 inc vat.
Seems steep to me! Is that about right? Also, the key I got off ebay was from the Range Rover Sport section, but looks identical to mine - is it?

I believe that the RRS and D3 keys are identical.
Regarding the cost, I'm not sure best thing to do would be to phone around. All I know is that when my second key stopped working (battery went flat and car was recovered to the dealer but they never asked me for my second key) it only took them about 1/4 hour to get both keys working again. 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

As I understand it the key has a indervidual code and the computor is programed to accept the key and there is space to do this 8 or more times [ not sure exact number of times] Hope this helps.

Having spoken to the main dealer - who says you can't have more than two keys programmed, and to Rogers of Bedford who say that you can, but only if you have ordered the key from LR to your chassis number, I am now a bit stuck as to what to do.
Can some one help me here?
I have the remote fob I bought from ebay, together with the key blade and an ignition barrel and door barrel which all match. I want to program just the remote fob to my car - I'll get a new blade to fit my locks from the dealer at a cost of £12. Is this possible or not? and if it is, can anyone tell me who can do it for me and how much it will cost?
Thanks

The key order process is to get the 'blade' cut to the right profile for your vehicle, the electronic part of the key still needs pairing to the vehicle, I can do this but TBH not any cheaper than the dealer can... unless you're having other work done at the same time (like a remap )
