35 mph restriction on height settings

Just something that has been bugging me.

Why hasn't someone developed a way of lifting the speed limit rather than tricking the height sensors by various means Question

To my mind would be a lot easier to use and would of thought re setting the limit to 50mph would of been more than ample for most off-roading needs.

Surely we have the technol;ogy on this site Whistle

50 mph - whats wrong wth the 35 mph

Just remind me of the maximum speed limit at your location Wink Whistle

Sand dunes, corrugated roads even gravel like tracks.

Speed limit in my present location 70 mph.

If in Guernsey and off road it would be on private land so the speed limit is inmaterial. Whistle

People are fitting the height sensor rods to get a faster off road speed without the constant bongs and lowering of suspension so their must be a demand for it, well if you go off-road of course.

Except Land Rover Aus are trying to stop any after market modification to their vehicles.

CaverD3 not sure what you saying as to regards my question. see you have height rods in your sig, so they haven't stopped you yet Confused

Would you prefer a higher speed limit before lowering automaticazliy or getting on down and screwing your own nuts as your rod is not the average size Sad

I would guess it´s much more difficult to alter the cars original software than to build either a mechical or small electric work around. These solutions are VERY simple to build. Altering the software also rises a serious legal issue and I guess a later dealer upgrade of D3 software would erase the fix.

I have developed a kit which got a mention in a major off road mag.
Result was Land Rover Aus setting their lawyers onto myself and Mitchell Bros . Rolling Eyes LandRovers attitude to modifications is extreme they dislike any modifications. LR Aus can only supply what LR head office will let them but why restrict the aftermarket industry.
It is not theirs it is yours and we believe the mods to be legal all they do is give 30mm lift; all other signals remain the same. Lift is <50 mm and < 1/3 of travel.

NSW tried to introduce some new regs which they were using to say it was illegal but they were not implemented after lobying from the after industry and 4x4 associations.

See:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-zone/90806...ost1118592

Land Rover have said they strongly oppose the modification and the mag says it is at your own risk. Under warranty LRcould refuse any suspension claim related to mod which is fair enough but that is all they needed to say.

When Matzker do this change they also put spacers on the car. Higher suspension at a higher speed combined with spacers gives the same stability as before.

They have done this in cooperation with TüV, which is the German test authority, and TüV issue a full set of test sertificates pr. car. These sertificates are widely accepted.

I don´t know if we actually enter a software license agreement with Land Rover when we buy a car from them. Don´t think it has gone that far - yet.

But Matzker mainly sell these kits through resellers who almost never put spacers on the cars Wink

Sounds like OZ is the new America, lawyers at every street corner and now off-road track. Smile

If the height rods are being produced and used, they operate by sending false info to the software, so no software issues surely. Thinking that the same could be done with regard to the speed sensor.

Matzker are doing something along these lines, though blinking expensive, so must be legal if TUV is gained and thats in aotucratic Germany.

CaverD3, do I take it your kit is now hidden away from the eagle beagles and thrown in the towel or is it still on going.

Taking it as yours lifts to an intermediate height you have fooled the height sensors not the speed sensors Question

Shortened rods like the adjustable rods only alter the body height in relation to the height sensors. This causes the vehicle to lift which brings the sensor arm back to the correct position. So no change to the actual signal. It is the same as loading the vehicle and adjusts whwn it is too low.
Change of height is allowable under current codes of practice.
Issue is only LR Aus taking exeption to it. It is up to regulatory authorities to decide what is legal.
Like adjustable rods it is at your own risk.

Matzker is bypassing the top speed limiter, not the height speed limiter. That is bypassed by changing the height AND implementeing their own speed limiter for their own height setting not touching LR height control/speed limiter. The top speed limiter is simply removed. Don´t know how.
