2.7 TDV6 timing belt damaged on front edge
Doing the timing belt on our (new to us) MY12 D4 TDV6 with the 2.7 engine. Just accessed the front and found that there is damage along the forward/front edge of the timing belt:
Looks like a lot of the belts rubber mess has gone into the idler pulleys:
The belt seems to be running hard agains the front edge of all the pulleys with some lip overhang on the idler pulley and belt tensioner pulley:
I'm replacing the belt, both idler pulleys and tensioner - any special considerations to avoid this or anything else to check regarding cause of?Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

The top picture of the cam pulley, check that the damper on that pulley is not worn, there might be play in it.

Thanks. Any tips for the process of checking the cam pulley damper? I've pushed, pulled and wriggled it as hard as I can and there is absolutely no movement happening.Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

I've installed the new belt centrally on all the pulleys and cogs. Have pulled it through two full crank rotations and it seems to be tracking well.Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

Is there any damage or scoring to the inside of the timing cover?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
They do tend to wear on that edge when the belt is old.

Nope.

This belt would be nearing the end of it's eighth year in service and 155,000km or so. With the near gear fitted everything looked fine so here's hoping!Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P
