2.7 TDV6 rear timing belt - how to remove breather line
I've completed the front timing belt today and currently working on the rear one following Disco_Mikey's guide (thank you). Perhaps being a last model 2.7 TDV6 engine (MY12 D4) there are some minor differences in mine. Have the cover unclipped and partially opened but cannot remove it. Referred to the genuine Land Rover instructions and I believe that the breather hose (that isn't mentioned or pictured in Disco_Mikey's guide) seems to be the last obstacle. Any guidance on how to remove it? It seems to have a spring hose clamp but with the flat tabs and lack of clearance I'm not sure how to pinch it and remove - also then worried about being able to refit it. Any tips or tricks?

As in the actual cover doesn’t need to come out? You just work through the small gap opening?Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

At the moment I cannot get the cover to come out. It feels to me like it’s the breather tube that it’s catching on as it’s got to come up on the left side (as your facing the engine from the front) and curl around as the right side has the A/C lines above it. Maybe if I pulled hard enough I might be able to get it out but I doubt the plastic would still be in one piece and wouldn’t go back in easily afterwards.
I believe that I have removed or moved everything else as per your guide and the LR manual instructions.
Mine is a MY12 (last year of the 2.7) and has some differences to that shown in your guide such as the case housing is held in place by three metal clips and there was a metal harness bracket at the back that had to be undone (2x nuts).Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

Managed to get the breather hose off with the flexible hose clamp pliers (have left them on it but suspect it will be interesting pushing it back on). Still cannot get that back belt cover any further out than:
I think the tabs on the bottom are catching on the belt/tensioner when trying to take it up as the bottom keeps pushing back in toward the engine so it's not getting clearance to come up. Feeling back there it seems that the rubber breather hose goes onto a metal hose and that is in the way for the cover.
EDIT: Got it out. The trick is that you just have to pretend that it's not 7 year old plastic and be rough with it. The gaps are all not big enough so it's constantly squeezing through and pushing on everything else to get out. Not looking forward to reassembly!
P.S. you are correct that likely that breather hose does not need to come out as it's the later metal part that's more of an interference!Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

Your issues are why I would rather pay someone to do the rear belt - the LR time for the job is something like an hour and someone who does it all the time can do it quickly and knows all the tricks.
I do most of my own work and servicing but there are some things that are just easier to pay someone to do them even when I am capable of doing them.

Agreed. I'd happily do the front belt again but wouldn't likely do a rear again. I'm glad I have done it though - I've enjoyed the challenger (now that it's almost over at least) and familiarising myself with the TDV6 engine.
There is no way I could do the rear belt in an hour. I'd guess next time maybe 3 hours required. Shifting everything out of the way is fairly straight forward and actually changing the belt and tensioner is not bad (aside from my smallest 1/4" torque wrench being too long to fit in and torque it up), but getting that cover in and out is a pain.Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P

@twr7cx Your right the more you do the easier it becomes. The first set of full belts I did was about 5 hours total, now Both belts, Oil pump, water pump all done in around 3.5 hours..
The D4 is a bit longer even without changing the Oil pump as more to come off at the rear belt and half as much room doing the front belt.

i have to admit i never changed the rear belt when had the 2.7
did two front belt changes and well over 300000 kms
local dealer also told me they never changed them either.
obviously the 3.0 is more critical since that is also timed on the rear

Of course this didn't hold true. 10 months later and I'm having major regrets while doing it again on our new (to us) D4...Mine - MY09 L319 D3 HSE Lion 2.7 TDV6 and modified MY03 LT L318 Discovery 2a HSE Td5 15P
