Some interesting data on the sales figures of large premium SUV’s.

Unsurprisingly, off road ability is clearly of little importance to the majority of buyers. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
2010 D4 HSE (A bit bling)-GONE
2014 D4 HSE (Almost too bling)-GONE
2015 D4 HSE (A heated what?)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Written Off)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Surely the last!) PD1881 rims-GONE

Interesting
An impressive result for the RR Sport though, especially as it’s not exactly new.
Even when the Disco was the real thing, it was outsold by the X5 nearly 5 times over; it’s easy to understand LR’s change of tack to try and appeal to a broader, less specialist, market with a softer product. It must be deeply frustrating to see it having failed to break out and now fading quickly. The good news is that, with the new Defender, they appear to have kicked Gerry McGovern’s worst excesses and dillusions into touch
What’s going on with the VW Touareg and a 214% increase in sales? From the architects of the diesel crisis? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

more reflective of the recent bumpy road tbh. if you look at the disco in isolation it's selling roughly the same as the D4.

Taking the above link and quoting the above figures for the D5, from Jan to June 19 @ 5,976, the comparing it with the last comparable period for the ‘4 in 2016 (7,747), I can’t see how this looks good.
The stated purpose of the ‘5 was to greatly increase its market share over the ‘4. Taking figures from the previous link, its sales have decreased by 42% while the two older designs from the same platform have both increased their sales over the same period. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

Yes, but unless you have been in hiding you would understand that aside from the facelifted Evoque, the RRS and FFRR, all LR models fell in the same period due to market conditions which hit LR particularly badly in the EU.
I'm also interested to see the source of the 'stated purpose to greatly increase market share' you refer to. The SUV market has grown over the last 7 years to become the busiest of all segments, but in which LR are a tiny %age

JATO data? Would that be the place in Uxbridge? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I think the negativity around the rear (which i do get) and a few minor design comments dont help - other than people choosing low specs and comparing to higher spec stuff (plus the right body packs are better and help with the bits people dont like), the D5 is genuinely better and from some time looking at the volvo etc i just cant see why people feel it is better or has anything better than the d5
My d5 does everything the d4 did in a better, more advanced package...maybe the trick is to be more negative on the foreign rubbish and more positive about British?
To be fair the rear is ok, i dont have a problem with mine - the only thing i think lets it down is how wide the things is.
The 19MY certainly has some upgrades in the handling/drive to the 18.5 etc Mike

But, over the first quarter of this year, the sales volumes of both the Fatty and the Sport having risen by 16 & 12% respectively, yet the ‘5 has contracted by 42%.
That quote Friday is LR is going to take a little while to find as it was 3 years ago, but I’ll give it a go over the weekend... 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

That's because the fatty and the sport are the only models in positive territory across the LR range at present. The velar, the DS and until recently the Vogue (new facelift is improving sales) were all down 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I'm not surprised at the results. As a potential customer I looked at the D5 to replace my D3 when they came out and was not overly impressed, especially given the price. I took a look at the RRS and in what may not be a widely shared opinion I felt the RRS was a better replacement for the D3. A better vehicle all round with fewer compromises. However at a £10k-15k premium over the D5 it didn't represent value for money in my book so I've stuck with the D3 in the vain hope LR will return to their roots.
A RRS at D5 prices I would buy tomo. The RRS pricing is just marketing and branding, it is not a more expensive car to produce. However it is clearly popular even at current pricing. Tony

They are European figures ...JLR report UK figures separately AFAIK ...and there is recent growth in the home market 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
