2014 RRS 6 pots on 2014 Discovery |
|
Hope to receive some kind advise from here. I gotten my D4 last year and found the brakes inadequate, then I saw the front brakes on the new 2014 RRS, 6 pots . I would very much want to upgrade my front brakes, can anyone tell me whether I can get a set of RRS caliper and mount onto my D4 ? what other parts I need change ? If possible please direct me to a vendor who can supply all the parts for the upgrades. I am from Singapore by the way, Thanks in advance.

If your brakes are inadequate you have a problem, my D4 brakes are more than adequate in fact they are excellent, Brembos may add a little more bling but that is all It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Welcome apman
I must confess to being surprised to read that you find your D4's brakes "inadequate".
Is this because you are towing a heavy trailer or caravan?
Last time I was in Singapore ISTR that the maximum speed limit was on expressways and was 90 km/h (56 mph).
If your brakes are inadequate it may be that they need attention to bring them up to standard, or that your tyres are unsuitable.
Please tell us more.

The front brakes on a D4 are Brembos - just not the shiny 4 or 6 pot versions

Perhaps I should be more precise about my brakes, inadequate to my liking rather than giving the impression to you guys that D4 has poor brakes. Yes we have speed limit at 90km/h here on our expressway, over the weekend we travel up to Malaysia often and the expressway there has a higher limit, 120 - 150 is not uncommon on those expressway. Honestly I have no experience driving a car that heavy like the D4 so I am yet to adjust myself on the braking, I will but at the same time I just want to have more bites in case my old habit kicks in.
On the other hand the new RRS came in 450kg lighter, same engine ( SDV6 ) / transmission and they equip with 6 pots...not for the bling factor to me.

d4 brakes aren't as good as the sports - that was the second thing I noticed after the fact it didn't handle. Even in standard (none brembos) the sports are just better. Mike

Robbo - yours is a D3 isnt it - the 3ltr D4 already has larger front discs (from Brembo - I know, I've had enough fitted to mine ), but are these the same size as the D3 V8's, or the larger still Brembo discs?
Whilst I dont think the front calipers are Brembo, the D4 front calipers carry a much bigger brake pad than either the D3 TDV6 or V8.

Hi Robbo770, Thanks for the input. I read your Brembo project that's why I am thinking day and night to have mine done too. I was quoted RRS 5.0 SC Brembo 6 pots at about £1300 ( 2 calipers 4 pads ), that's very reasonable considering all Brembo's BBK are selling 3 times the price. Should I also get RRS 5.0 SC rotor to complete the project ? The big question is , will it fit my D4 ?
I am also thinking whether I should check the part number for knuckle used on RRS 5.0 SC / D3 / D4, if they are the same then I can safely order the parts. What's your thought ? Thanks.
