2013MY HSE Sat Nav Settings

Don't use the satnav much up here as one road to anywhere mainly but I'm struggling with the brightness settings, the options are day, night or auto. Pretty obvious really except 'auto' doesn't seem to do anything. I'd expect it to switch to night mode either when it's dark outside or when the headlights are switched on but it stays on 'day' mode all the time.

Any hints - I've trawled the manual but can't find any reference to this.

You are not the first to post this but all I can say is that my MY13 does not hesitate to go into night mode. On a dull day such as today just starting the car under the carport is enough for it to trigger night mode until I pull clear of the house.
