If they are going to take the replacement for the D4 up-market so much and not have a 7 seat replacement at the same price point, then the Defender is going to have one hell of a big market gap to fill....

It will need to be cover both run-of-the-mill Defender and top-of-the-range Discovery and everything in between.

The price point of the new 7 seat RRS is going to be well above what most prospective D3/D4 owners would want to pay.

I can't believe that there's no news of the FL2 as that must surely be up for some serious fettling or re-positioning during the next couple of years.

I just can't see why they would want a 7 seat RRS to be honest when a Discovery does the family-bus thing so well.

Weird news/strategy if you ask me Confused Also, they ditched the D3 name after only 5 years, so surely they can't ditch the D4 after just 3 years?

L405 was announced/rumoured as being the future FFRR around 3 years ago Thumbs Up

The news here seems to be that the same alloy platform will also find its way into the new RRS and hence the 7-seat D5 erm I mean RRS too

As foreseen, it is all go for Range Rover to become a brand and Land rover to be a one model brand again (fair enough)

Obviously with the anti 4x4, the Land Rover name will be less bankable whereas the RR name may have more luck with the average Joe as a green(ish) SUV.

"7Door RRS", "D5", maybe it is just a name on the boot !

At the end, the result will be an identical vehicule, see how upmarket the D4 is compared to the D3.

An even more upmarketed D4 (aka D5) would just be a "RRS with 7 seat", wouldn't it (indeed, a D4 is almost already that : a RRS with 7 seats, and i am not the only one to think the D4 has been though to become a "Range Rover Discovery" at some point before returning as a LR product...)

Anyway "wait and see", it is not like we all are going to change much about the faith of this Discovery legacy, is it !

Or show I enjoy and see Thumbs Up

Apart from almost identical specs for a D5 and RRS the price will be the same as well. That one has to go has been obvious for quiet a while.
Would be sad though to see the Discovery name disappear from the range.

It would be the first name to be droped from the brand !

Anyway, the spirit of the current (and past) disco may live in the next Defedender (or a new product eventualy) as the Defender II ( Rolling Eyes ) will have to cover the job of at basic current Defender and the HSE D3 (the D4 being somewhat a RRS 7 seater already)

Therefore the Defender II may be a D3 clone in some part of its range
, one could even imagine a "Defender Discovery" ! Whistle

Sad if either closes (for either set of fans) but just from the report couple of months ago that one is to close. Sad
