Presumably much more £ than the £400 cost at build?

About £300 for a decent job - of course with the more visible antennae. It wasn't the £100 saving for me, it was the fact that I could have the car in a couple of days (suited my situation well) rather than months.

I'll happily live with the antennae!

One thing about the XS - the brochure says it comes without premium nav (which is available for about £450). But oddly all XS's come with it anyway. Easily identifiable as you get TMC and voice control.

Stunning car Thumbs Up absolutely beautiful.

Think I made a HUGE mistake turning down the offer of an identical one from stock a couple of weeks ago Big Cry

Panorama - "Distance to Empty 386 miles" on an almost full tank? Shocked

APL,

From what I have seen so far, it does 36 on the motorway, 33 on A roads and 29 in town. Also, the gauge is poor, it spends ages on full before it starts to drop.

The first tank averaged 33, but it's not run in, and I was doing the stuff you need to do to run it in right (which is not economical).

Before that photo was taken, it had done a couple of days of just town work and it got pessimistic about "distance to go". I then used it on the motorway for a few miles and gained about 50 miles in distance to go. 8)

Yes. The D4 does eventually adapt to driving styles and updates the fuel calculations accordingly, but I've yet to see a spot on accurate one - mine still reckons around 700 km to a tank even when I end up getting almost a thousand km out of it!

Are there any other advantages to PG as opposed to tints?

Apart from not being able to see the antennae on the sides and the heating elements on the rear, it's almost impossible to apply the tint without getting "white lining" around anything which isn't smooth to the glass. You can see it around the black border on most windows and either side of the orange lines on the rear windows. It just visually makes the glass look smaller by putting an edge around it and to my eyes it ruins the high rear window design of the Disco.

On a more practical note, if you carry much in the rear load space (as I do) you'll quickly find the tints are very easy to scratch. Anything hard that touches the glass is likely to make a visible mark on the outside during even short journeys.

Although I had the expensive guaranteed not to fade Pentagon 3M film, it's also impossible to make a tinted plastic film that doesn't fade a little over a few years of sunshine. This is particularly noticeable on Disco's because faded tint tends to go a little purple or magenta colour which contrasts nicely with the large black borders to the glass! Because I have to have tints for security, I eventually swapped the 3 rear windows for PG and the old D3 looked so much better.

Pottsy, you mention that all XS's seem to have the premium nav as standard despite the brochure listing that, along with TMC and voice control, as being standard only on the HSE.

I have MY12 XS - how can I quickly tell if this is the case with mine ? It could just be that you've got lucky with a glitch in production.....!

If there's a TMC icon on your nav screen (and you have voice control) then you have premium nav. The only real bonus is the TMC.

Did you do this, or get it done? How easy / difficult / expensive was it? I've missed the date to change my spec by a couple of weeks... so it's either tints, replace the glass or nothing. D4 XS MY12 Galway

Got it done at a local independent windscreen place in Guildford. Told them what I wanted, (just the three rear windows), and they ordered genuine LR privacy glass as replacements. Fitted about 10 days after first enquiry. This was a while back on my D3. Now I've got used to the D4 which came with it as standard, I'd definitely do the rear doors too. It's great being able to leave stuff on the back seat without it being so obvious to scroats outside!

I had this done a while ago now at the same time as a windscreen replacement on insurance, so I can't remember the exact price for the three rear PG windows, but I do remember thinking it was cheaper than the price quoted on LR brochures for PG glass when you order it on a new car!!!???

Probably the best option would be to get a price for the glass from TLO on here and then find someone local to fit it?

Thumbs Up

Just in case anyone reads this thread and wonders what the outcome of my comment above was... to retro-fit privacy glass would be very expensive! Considerably more than the cost of spec'ing it at build. I've posted elsewhere on costings.
