Thanks. Already made my first screw up, trying to work against windy conditions, I ended up with 1 run mark on the door. But at this stage I CBA to deal with it properly. So it will get a light sanding when all 4 coats of paint are on. Primer has managed to get past some of the masking tape onto the black trims around the window, luckily I have paint thinner from when I had to remove graffiti from my friends campervan, so will take a cloth and carefully get that off once the paint and lacquer is all dry and cured.
Finding this process frustrating though. I don't mind the painting part. It's the waiting an hour between coats. In the summer I allow 15-20 minutes, but with the temperatures being 5 degreed at best outside with a colder wind chill, I am allowing double the time even with a patio heater being used on 1 side.

All coats of paint are now on. Letting it set until the morning, then sanding and clear coating it. So in theory by the end of tomorrow, I hope to get the plastic off of the bodywork. I have now updated all insurance, AA cover, Warranty etc... with the new reg, so all is good to go apart from the seized caliper
Really starting to feel excited about this car again.

Cheers. Someone pointed out something to me today that if I had realised I would have finished this today. But definitely have to wait until tomorrow now, and now after a little experiment following someones instructions but making a rookie mistake I ended up with run marks on one side in the 1st coat of lacquer which will be corrected tomorrow. But this also means I need to lightly sand the 1st quarter panel down to the paint and put 1 more coat on. But feel really pleased that it is going to at least look normal again until I can get the money together to send it to the bodyshop and get them to properly respray the quarter panels for me and the door. Only thing that I have left after this lot is the long scratches down the side and the short scratch on the wing and 1 long scratch on the bonnet to sort. Bonnet will be easy, the doors I dread as it is side on.
Now resting up for the night and vegging in front of the TV. Tonga green and Mercedes Brilliant Silver are the 2 worst colours I have ever worked with. Never had these issues with other cars I have painted. Although the Mercedes I painted was also poor quality Halfords paint. I don't use it anymore. I get the paint made up by paints4u and use Simoniz lacquer as out of all the tins other than Hycote, it gives the best shine and value for money in my opinion. Hycote is superb, just very expensive for the amount you get in a can. I miss my bodyshop with the proper air spray equipment and wall mounted heat lamps.

Feeling really quite rough today, combination of paint fumes and general health anyway. But actively decided not to do anything to the cars today when I woke up, then the sun came out and the winds died down and I couldn't ignore the opportunity to get some lacquering done, so forced myself to get out there and do it. I actually should have the lacquering of the door and drivers rear quarter finished by the end of today. Which will mean that tomorrow I will be sanding the lacquer back on the passenger rear quarter and putting 1 more coat of colour on and then 4 more coats of lacquer. Yes making more work for myself but it keeps me busy but I am still confident that I will have the cars main paintwork finished by the end of tomorrow. Monday at the very latest.

The painting and lacquering is all done. Still got to sand the lacquer and polish it another time. But the car is now all the same colour again. The worst of the vandalism is gone. And I feel happy again. This will be redone by a bodyshop in the in the future, but for now, this will do. I like how the vents look. Tomorrow I will be checking for any complications of the vent installation and fitting the new reg plates.
Now I am resting as I have over done it. But me overdoing it today feels totally worth it.

The plates are on, I managed to get the brake free'd enough to take the car for a quick blast.
Definitely needs flatting and polishing where I painted But still happy that it is all green.

I was going to tinker with the Discovery today to keep me occupied, but I had my 1st Covid jab today.
I had the Oxford one, and because of extensive underlying health conditions, I have had side affects that most people won't get, including an asthma attack, and quite literally being floored from it in under 40 minutes of having the jab. This is not an anti jab post, as I do not regret it and feel it is needed and know many people who have had the same vaccine and have only had mild side affects. So any working on the actual car is off limits, which takes a lot for me to even say I won't. I might however have a go later if my pain levels drop low enough at making up the D4 rear light guard brackets that I am missing.
And I still feel excitement and joy when I see my Discovery with all the paint the same colour and the private plate on it that I have been wanting to get for 6 months.

Well. the I am not tinkering went right out the window, spoke to my GP and was told to take extra of another medication I am on which has countered the worst of the side affects of the jab for me thankfully, so going through stages of feeling extra weak and fluctuating temperatures. So removed the fog lights from the old bumper as I knew I had 1 good bulb, and cleaned the lights up, will probably sell them on to be honest, and I have been dreading facing the drivers door lower trim panel as there is glue all over the door where the clips go and all over the inside of the trim. I have now removed all of the glue from the trim but not the door as I don't feel safe enough to move the car today, and was surprised to find no damage. So some idiot has chosen a short cut that cost more than just fitting new clips! I will fit new clips later as I have about 30 brand new ones that I bought. So tomorrow, I am hoping to get the glue off the door and get the trim fitted back on. If I find that there is another reason for the glue being there, then I will use tigerseal to bond it on myself

Mustered up some energy today. Keep having dizzy spells and frequent fatigue attacks as well as really painful joints, muscles and a bad headache. Paracetamol only helps a bit, and I am avoiding full strength pain meds until later.
But between the dizzy spells, I decided to tackle a couple of jobs. Replaced the dead foglight bulb, and removed all the sticky crap from the door. I was going to fit the trim back on today until I found the current problem as to why it popped off in the first place. I haven't installed the sidestep properly as yet so it is further out than it should be, which I didn't actually realise, so the bottom of the door trims actually get pulled out by the sidestep when the door is closed.

The beast needed a run anyway and although I am meant to be resting, I couldn't sit at home and no go and get something on my bucket list. I have always wanted to own a vehicle that has been converted to a trailer. Didn't expect to get this conversion, but I love the newest project that the Discovery towed effortlessly. I know own a classic MK4 Ford Escort Van converted to a trailer. I bought it off the guy who did the conversion many years ago under the supervision of a trident trailer engineer. It does tow really well. I plan on changing the colour of it though.

And I am in the dog house for this, as I might have snuck off to north Kent while my partner was at work, not seeing a text to say he was going to be home later than normal for a break from work only to arrive at the same time as he did. I was hoping that he would come home at midnight, think I had just parked like a knob and not noticed the trailer until the next day
Now I desperately need to get the other trailer shifted on to a new home or I will be having to add another £35 per month to my outgoings to store the escort trailer until the other trailer is sold.
