2 problems, possibly connected.. (now hopefully cured)

OK, so I have a couple of problems with my D3..

Firstly, It runs and drives great most of the time. That is until you try and accelerate hard, then it drops into limp mode (turn off and back on and it's fine again) Normal driving / acceleration is fine.

Secondly, the MPG isn't good. I don't think I've ever seen anything as high as 20 out of it. Never bothered me before, but with price of diesel as it is now, I could do with a bit more.

Any ideas ? Could the two things be connected ?

Thanks

You need to read the fault codes or its complete guess work.

I would say its most likely a split intercooler pipe or a problem with the egr valves.

Without codes its a guessing game, any error messages on the dash or big F under the speedo ?

As said you do need the codes to be sure, but when mine had similar issues it was the turbo actuator stuck. In most cases it can be freed up, there are threads about it on here. Mine was broken so had to get the turbo out and serviced.

Codes now read -

P0405-00 Exhaust gas recirculation sensor A circuit low Permanent.

P1935 -00 Brake switch sensor signal. Intermittent

P2290-00 Injector control pressure too low. Intermittent

I'm guessing the first one is because EGR's have been blanked, and it's the last one causing problems. Any ideas what would cause this ?

Just for completeness (and to rule it out) I'd change the brake pedal switch as a first port of call, they can throw up a multitude of problems. For £20 and 10 minutes at least then you would be able to remove that from the possible causes...

Good hunting with the rest of it...

Thats a good idea i would also suggest changing the fuel filter for a genuine one.

Well I fitted new fuel filter today, couldn't get a brake light switch in time..

I've just been for a 20 mile test drive through town and A roads. The roads were quite empty so I did imaginary overtakes Whistle kicking down and accelerating. It didn't go into limp mode once, so more than happy with results if they last.

Another surprising outcome when I got back, over the 20 miles I'd averaged 24.2 MPG (never seen it with a 2 in front before Laughing )
