You can get in and out of the tailgate.
I bought one of these last week, but yet to fit.

You can also use programmable button or on the dash hold the lock and unlock at the same time to open the rear.

its lovely and comfortable IF you have a good bed, we bought a SELF inflating double mattress. keep a window slightly open or sunroof. we have a Land rover event day tent which fits on the back of the car for cooking stuff etc. We been all round UK and France

I sleep in mine regular, both camping on my own and with my son, really comfy with a self inflating mattress. If I haven’t got the full side awning up we deffinately use the tailgate to go in and out, pop the upper gate up and lean on the bottom watching the morning.
I fitted a switch to release from the inside.
