Nice to see wild speculation. They haven't stopped D5 production as such.... the Velar is currently being built on the same line and strong demand for that is taking a higher priority.
Not what I was told when trying to put in an order.
The statement was fairly simple, no more orders till 2018 model year came out. But there was a possibility of a discounted 2017 model for fairly quick delivery dependant on what was in the system. But clearly no choice on options etc.
The chap that told me had nothing to gain by making it up as he is our Finance broker not a salesman and he wasn't informed of the situation by a Salesman.
Either way the truth will come out in the next few months.
It's best to be more reliant on the views of those that work in the plant ....rather than in the showroom
I wouldn't touch the v6 diesel - it's basically the same engine as the one in the D4/RRS which tends to break its crank
I have not heard of anybody breaking the crank on the 3.0.
Plenty of 3.0 D4s in ZA have had cranks snap, and I saw on the RRS forum of 2 MY15-16 that also broke their cranks recently.--

A Salesman didn't tell me that.
Came from somebody at JLR
Salesman at the Dealer told me Delivery Times for D5 and Velar were nearly identical.
As I said already I am happy to wait for 2018 model.
Especially as JLR have had fullfat RR pictured driving around in camouflage with Velar type screens fitted.

Are you going to post up any actual information?
Or just make smart comments?
Why not post up what you know so people can decide what is or isn't rumour. And also what is fact.
So are you confirming that I should be able to order a 2017 D5 at my dealer today?
And there will be no differences between that one and a 2018 model?

Are you saying you know of loads of 3.0tdv6 engines that have had bottom end problems?
Yes, it's a well documented issue that a lot of 3.0 owners have suffered.
No idea why you're being so defensive and argumentative, I just found your comment amusing having been one of the many on here that have faced an £18k bill for a new engine due to crank failure on the 3.0, it wasn't a dig at you.
Either way, despite the well known crank issue with the 3.0, there's no way I'd be going for the 2.0 in such a heavy truck.

I did post up some factual information and I did post up what I know......but just to make you happy as I'd forgotten that it's about the time of year for the next MY you are probably right. So you can make hay on that

Hi J77,
Any chance of a PM with the MY18 details.
Just about to pull the trigger on a SD4 HSE with options.
Would be good to know if I should learn to be more patient.
Cheers mate

Anyone buying a brand new large capacity diesel at the cost of a decent spec D5 needs their bumps felt....
I'd say it is a huge risk of massive depreciation, potential dry-humping from the government in punishment tax and not a good idea.
If I loved everything about the D5 I would wait - petrol supercharged or hybrid only. The 3l diesel is old tech and I'm sure will be consigned to history soon.
Only my opinion though, no facts MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)
