Had an e-mail from Drive the Deal and they are doing 10% off DS and 4% off D5 so JLR cannot be worried despite our views. I suspect D5 volume expectations are lower than with D3/D4 as I said earlier due to the broadness of the range.
Thing is .....retail volumes are still very strong month on month across the range in general of which UK sales account for 18.7% ..JLR have a strategy and the D5 , warts and all, has moved position within the overall range and traditional markets are adjusting to that hence the lower sales v 2016 D4.
What is slower to change is our recognition of the strategy and acceptance with the D5 that the D3\4 it ain't ....to satisfy that market, various guises of the forthcoming Defender will take the place of what we consider to be the 4x4 gamechanger that was the original D3.
All IMO of course.
I don't have to argue with the shift but I think you explain it well.2014MY Discovery

The D3 launch specs were a right dogs dinner of different standard and options fit for a few months
That's what companies do...
I'm seeing more of them every day, back looks odd IMO but horses for courses - if I had a spare £70K knocking about I'd probably get one - but I want to retire in a few years so doesn't make man maths sense
if LR change the D5 product offering every 6 months, everyone can have limited run collectors editions
LR have always added bits and pieces during each model year change23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

D5 is what it is, its a very good car for the money I think but it isn't a direct replacement for the D4 for all. LR cant start changing it drastically due to customer feedback but each model year will always have new bits mainly either for cost saving by simplifying parts inventory (it may be cheaper to up the spec of a lower model if it simplifies supply chain) or they will add new bits due to competition so the TFT dash could be to catchup up with the audi and volvos.
Where I think Land Rover do have a valuable opportunity to offer bigger changes and make more money is to offer SVO packages for the Discovery a bit like Autobiography for the Range Rover. A SVO Utility package for instance with manual split tailgate, manual folding seats and rubberised load space would be a great offering.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I'm glad I bought when I did, the budget was stretched as it is. The new increase brings no beneficial updates IMO. The Pro system doesn't show traffic lights on the nav and doesn't do text readout like my current entry level system and that's all you get for your £2k. It's only a £1700 option at most on other models in the range.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
