17'' or 18'' AT tires
I'm looking for a recommendation of AT tires which will meet the registrations doc.
In Israel we have only General and I think of importing 4 new and long life
AT tires which will last rock and sand terrains.

I have set of 18 AT2's on my D3
They are great in all weathers and not too much road noise either.
Can recommend them. All things shipping, storage, transport. UK and worldwide.

Danny - I see you have an SE so you probably have 18 " rims . I downgraded my HSE to 17 " because I wanted a tyre with a bigger side wall .Both 17 and 18 " BFG are slightly bigger than std OE tyres , but not really an issue other than a bit of rubbing and slight under read on the speedo

Thanks heine,
I do have a set of 17" rim, and I love BF AT. I had them on my ex D1.
However, I'v looked in their website and I could not find the D3 matching 17" size ?!

I even remember that I had BF M/T which were not noisy as expected as other brands.

Hi Danny,
As heine says, the BFGs are oversize, so you won't find them in 235/70R17 size.
I have the 265/70R17 BFG A/Ts on my D3, just very slight rubbing on the rear wheelarch, but no damage to the tyre. (You will also need to deflate the spare somewhat in order to get it to fit in the standard location.)

Thanks Martin and Peter
The sizes you're talking about are not "standard sizes" offered by the mfg.
Doe's the local police in Australia allow it ? Here in Israrl they keep checking our tires
in the various road blocks.

Peter
I like the 70% tires solution.
In regard with the spare I can still use the original slim one. Generally if we go for few days or rough surface, I add one tire from the other set mounted to the roof rack since trying to unpack the baggage is not favorable.....
Do you have a picture sowing the rubbing area?!

Hi Danny,
Australia is comprised of 7 states and territories (the territories do not have sufficient population to achieve status of a state). Currently, each state and territory has its own rules regarding tyre size (as well as many other things ). In some of the states and territories, my size of tyre would be illegal, but as I was from interstate, they tend to be more tolerant.
I have been stopped in two different states (for breath testing for alcohol level). At that time they normally do a visual inspect of the vehicle for any safety problems. At no time was there any issues raised regarding tyre size.
Regarding the picture: No I don't, I should do something about that.
Sorry for the long-winded reply.
Best Wishes,

Well Steve,
As you probably know, Israel is at the size of a city in Australia.
The police have many other more important things rather than checking our tires, especially if we deal with a very expansive as D3 (about 120000 Usd). However unfortunately they find time to "look under the light".
Therefore I will take your advice and will build my spare set more suitable for rough terrain with the BF, and will take the chance.
If I'll be caught I'll ask for your help.
Cheers, and do not drink, too much, before driving
