14MY: HSE vs. HSE Luxury?
I'm looking to order a 14MY Discovery sometime soon and set out to go for the HSE Luxury, but after looking at the specs more closely I'm not entirely convinced it offers that much over the HSE when you consider the (almost £6k!) price difference. Yes, I would add a couple of bits that are standard on the HSE Luxury to the HSE, but even when you do this the HSE is still a chunk cheaper.
The main thing that's putting me off the HSE Luxury, however, is the unavailability of the Active Rear Locking Differential, which is optional on every model bar this one. Anyone know why you can't have it?! I'm guessing it's got something to do with the Rear Seat Entertainment, but was this the case with 13MY and before? Seems odd, and is something I would most definitely want due to taking the car off-road frequently.
Many thanks.

The options clash is due to weight, although the maximum weight has been increased for the MY14 to add additional goodies.
The Lux did not add up for me either. In no way is it worth the extra money; the only bit I liked was the leather dash and I hear of problems with that already!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I have a lux, and no problems with the dash. Its very well trimmed. RSE is very good if you need it. Personally, I would always be niggled by what I might be missing if I were to go for the lower spec. Extravagant? Maybe, but I have always gone for the top spec in new cars I have bought.

Yep, I just can't make the figures work with it. I'd add the heated steering wheel, extended roof rails and the Meridian upgrade to the HSE, but I really want that locking diff! Seems mad that it's just down to weight with the HSE Luxury.
The leather dash sounds lovely, though!

The leather dash looks great; easily the best bit of the Lux.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I had the very same dilemma when i ordered mine.
In the end I went for the hse as when I sat and looked at it I couldn't justify the extra money.
I bought 2 iPad mounts that fasten to the headrests, they cost me £30 for the pair.
I already have the hybrid tv tuner that I retro fitted to my d3, this will be fitted when I get to know where it is located in the my13 d4.d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack

Alive Tuning EGR blanking kit
Alive Tuning Re-map
Alive Atrics console
Samco intercooler hoses (from Alive Tuning)
Alive Tuning De-Cat pipe, lovely tone!

Why is a locking diff so important? IMO its only needed if you are going to do really serious off road stuff.
I have done a fair bit in my 3 Disco's, and never seen a non locking rear diff not get anywhere one with a locking diff did, and I have seen locking rear diff cars stuck with the rest.

I went for the HSE with just a couple of the options that are standard on the Lux and I don't feel at any loss tbh

I just feel that in order to have the 'ultimate' Discovery it should have as much LR off-road technology thrown at it as possible. I'll be using it for towing, varied off-roading and general car duties. It just seems like not opting for it is like buying a Ferrari that isn't quite as fast as it could be. Do the LRE cars have them fitted?

Was a discussion some time back re rear diff lock, not a great deal of difference between having or not. Main conclusion was it just made it slightly more controlled in the sticky stuff but not a gadget that made a huge difference in being stuck or not.
Landrover has become more successful through marketing not technology.

Yes the LRE cars have them fitted.
