11 Plate Disco Shakes on Start Up
I would be interested to hear any views on the problem I'm having with my 11 plate Disco 4 which has 37k on the clock.
Recently I've noticed that when I turn it on in the morning the engine (or something under the bonnet) seems to "noticeably shake" the car for a couple of seconds before running normally. It never used to do this and I'm not aware that its burning any oil or under performing in any other way.
Its only started doing this recently and im a bit concerned that perhaps there is an engine mounting issue or perhaps it indicates something not quite right in the engine?
Warranty is up at the end of this month so feeling a bit vulnerable.....
Thoughts and advice appreciate.
Cheers
Stuart

Glow plugs can make it do that; does it do it when the engine is warm?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Me too. Rattles the dog cage to make it seem worse than it is.
Anyway, just had LRA out this hour - parking sensor knackered. Again. Booked in. Warranty runs out mid-April. Need to think about my options.

Well if it is the glow plugs the favourite reasons includes a failing ECT sensor making the engine thing it is warmer than it is.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

When I was at Land Rover Experience the other week, the instructor said that you should press the start/stop button first without your foot on the brake, wait for the system check and glow plug light to go out, then put your foot on the brake, and press the start/stop button again.
His theory was that this allowed the glow plugs to work properly before the starter takes all the current.
Not sure if it actually hides a problem, but mine starts smoother on cold mornings when I adopt this method. Mine is quite new (11 mnths) so unlikely I have a glow plug problem, but its never very smooth for the first few seconds unless I do as described.

But the system is designed to pause for the glow plugs before spinning the starter?

My 11 plate seems to do this too and I can't recall that it used to. I'd be interested in finding out what the cure is as it runs out of warranty in June.
Regarding pressing the button first, I thought the start procedure automatically waited fit the plugs to heat.
