It is, but it wont cope with more than about 20Amp peak. You'll need something that can cope with 200A.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

^^^^^ And think Amps for other relay if winch is being supplied via that.
PS Never worried about Amps as was only keeping beer cold and phone/iPad charged.

So this is how I think the set up was on the car it came off.
The voltage sensing bit just turns on one of the solenoids, that solenoid then turns on the other solenoid. that makes a circuit. The loadar controller can also turn on the solenoid if the engine is off but you need to winch.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch π

If it was me Iβd put one of the relays down stream if the 2nd batt with its sensor feed through a switch, means the aux battery can be used for other things while keeping the winch isolated. Like keeping beer cold.

Or maybe version 3 with only one relay in the split charge system.

Too complicated for me, best keep it simple. Less to go wrong, and if/when it does, figure out whatβs gone wrong. Assume something will fail at the worst possible time.

Yes I think your right. I will stick to one battery for now. I can add a second if needs be. If the winch is pulling power from main battery or second battery it doesent much matter.
If I add a second battery it would support the main battery, just as if it was the other way around.

A winch should always be fed from the main battery, not the auxiliary battery. Unless you are using a minimum 70mm2 cable to link the main and auxiliary battery.MY14 TDV6

As Kelvo said you dont need a second battery for winching but your system does need to be in good order.
A secondary battery is usually a deep cycle system and cannot handle the loads of a winch where the starter battery can. The second battery is for providing low power draw items like fridges and lights in camping situations and is usually a deep cycle type to allow greater draw down.
You starter battery is designed to provide high power in short bursts like starting your engine so is ideal for winching where high loads are required in short bursts - winches have a duty cycle and this needs to be adhered to - usually winching for no more than 30secs at a time then a rest. Also the engine MUST be running when winching to keep power up to the battery (though if you engine is drowned and dead you may not have not choices)
So no secondary battery needed for winching but your starting system needs to be in top condition and keep your engine running.

Rough cable routes
Hi, I have been looking at mockimg up my second battery. can someone tell me if these cable routs and solenoid positions look to be sensible?
Course I need to move the gubbings for the battery yet but jus mt looking at the moment.
Also the 2nd hand kit I bought had 2 solenoids, one at each side which I took to be a need to isolate the big main live wire that runs over the engine bay. Does anyone else have 2 solenoids in their set up. I thought that I could usejust one solenoid and fit a big 200 amp fuse on the other end of the wire. Like the one in the photo
