Yes, a bit drastic. I should have mentioned that the EPB has been unlatched so i need to open it up to reset it anyway. I have previously removed the EPB mounting plate, so flipping it over to do this should be ok. Hoping a cable swap wont add too much effort to this process.
I couldn't get the cable to budge out of the backplate at all. Chewed up the plastic screw cap with vice grips trying to undo it. Then it looks like the cable has a metal outer that is seized into the backplate. I still cant get it out - even on the bench with a vice.
Thanks for the pointer about the press and garages. i could drop it into my indy to do.
Cheers
Mike

Used to use the weld the bearing trick years ago, we used a stick welder as I am not sure we had a mig!
Hi mate
Hope this finds u well
Years ago seen grease being used to remove a bearing behind the flywheel on an old engine but alas hadn't seen the welding trick done before
Does seem the mig is very popular
Ps, used a stick welder years ago in my teens and being a clever clogs , without a mask, taught me a bloody good lesson when my eyes were extremely painful for well over a week, hospital wernt happy when they realised I also had contact lenses
